Suddenly, two Metrocops appear on the television and begin busting down the door, which turns out to be the Citizen's own door as the officers enter the room. The game begins in this apartment, with the Citizen facing a television set showing video of a hallway with a door.
In the beginning, on-screen text describes the Citizen (whose name is never given) as living in an apartment in City 17 and explains that he was never interested in joining the rebellion against the Combine.
